How much chemistry is involved in genetic engineering?

By chemistry i mean “High school chemistry”. I am really into genetic engineering but I don’t like Chemistry. Is it important in Genetic engineering? If so is the chemistry pretty much the same as high school chemistry? All we learned this year is like about ATOMS and Sig Figs and stuff I dont see how it is useful in genetic engineering but i heard u need it to become a genetic engineer?
